From Windows to Linux

On the eve of Microsoft’s launch of Windows 7, the gloves are off in the fight for business customers. IBM today unveiled an all-out campaign to persuade U.S. companies, governments and organizations to finally break their Windows habit and make the switch to Linux, usatoday.com reported.

“Our data shows a remarkably high number of organizations planning to standardize on the new Windows 7 operating system in the near-term,” says Chris Neal, a vice president at Chadwick Martin Bailey. “Those who are holding back for the time being are more commonly staying with XP, rather than Vista.”

“This is the chance so many companies have been waiting for to break the proprietary lock Microsoft has on the desktop.” said Bob Picciano, general manager of IBM Lotus software. “They can permanently free themselves and their IT budgets with open source computing.”

Writing Great SEO Content Using Personality Traits

•August 19, 2009 • 1 Comment

If you know about the four distinct types of people that could become your customer it will be helpful when it comes to writing great search engine optimization (SEO) content. You can appeal to all of the various personalities in one article or you can produce four distinct SEO pieces to target specific people. While there is no guarantee that this will bring in more conversions, it has been seen to help guide potential buyers. Targeting clients with your SEO personality strategy is another marketing tool that should be put into your arsenal.

If you are going to put all four personality traits into one article there are ways to do it that will optimize your article. Use the search engine optimization keywords that will appeal to two of the traits in the first part of the article. Since you won’t have any real interaction with a client over the internet it will be harder to determine which personality type you will be dealing with. So knowing which ones to begin with is going to be part of the strategy.

Out of the four traits the article should be targeted to the rationals and artisans first. These personalities won’t want to look through a lot of information to find out what they want to know. They want it now and they want the facts. The rational doesn’t have time to waste and the artisan likes the most up to date product or service of the day. You will lose their interest if you don’t produce the right search engine optimization keyword article from the beginning.

Your other two types like to spend time looking for the facts before making a purchase so they will take whatever time is necessary to uncover them. They will usually read the entire content to find the answers to their questions. That makes it easier for you to prepare your SEO piece with the facts and figures that this type of person requires. If you can incorporate other people’s comments about your product or service within the page of the search engine optimization content they will take the time to read them, especially the idealist, as they need to know that you are reputable and honest.

Many people can be a combination of personalities when it comes to purchasing, so putting all of the different types of information into your SEO articles can reach this type of potential customer as well.

It has been announced via the Linus Upson’s official blog that it is planning to launch it’s own operating system called Google Chrome OS.

The authors write: “It’s been an exciting nine months since we launched the Google Chrome browser. Already, over 30 million people use it regularly. We designed Google Chrome for people who live on the web—searching for information, checking email, catching up on the news, shopping or just staying in touch with friends. However, the operating systems that browsers run on were designed in an era where there was no web. So today, we’re announcing a new project that’s a natural extension of Google Chrome—the Google Chrome Operating System. It’s our attempt to re-think what operating systems should be.” The new operating system based on Google’s 9-month-old Web browser will initially be targeted at netbooks Chrome, it is expected to begin running computers in the second half of 2010.

Now you can still download free a new web browser for Windows Google Chrome combined a minimal design with sophisticated technology which will help you to make the web faster, safer, and easier on Google.com

•May 29, 2009 • Leave a Comment

How to to incorporate a QuickTim movie within your Web site? First of all you shoul create a hinted QuickTime movie and upload it to your streaming media directory:

1.Prepare and encode your source content into a hinted QuickTime Streaming movie. Refer to How to Hint a QuickTime movie for help. Choose an appropriate filename to remind yourself that it has been hinted. The instructions that follow refer to your hinted QuickTime movie as hinted.mov.

2.If you have not done so already, activate your streaming media directory now.

3.Upload hinted.mov to your streaming media directory (public_media) on Dante or Homer. Be sure to upload it as “binary” or “raw data” since it is not a text file.

4.(Optional) Now that hinted.mov is in your streaming media directory, test it using QuickTime Player. If your movie does not stream correctly when opened by QuickTime Player, it is unlikely to stream later, when you’ve done additional work to add it to your Web site.

Next, create a reference QuickTime movie and upload it to your Web site:

1.Create a reference QuickTime movie that points to your hinted QuickTime movie on the QuickTime Streaming Server. Choose an appropriate filename to remind yourself that it is a reference QuickTime movie. The instructions below use the simple filename ref.mov.

2.Upload ref.mov to your Web site. Be sure to upload it as “binary” or “raw data” since it is not a text file.

Finally, reference your reference QuickTime movie from a Web page:

1.Create or edit the Web page on which you want visitors to find your streaming media. Use whatever tool you normally use to work on Web pages.

2.Either add a link to your reference QuickTime movie:

Substitute pixels according to the width and height of your hinted QuickTime movie, adding 16 pixels to the actual height to provide space for the movie controller. Refer to Embedding QuickTime for web delivery to learn more about the attributes of the EMBED and OBJECT elements in this context.

3.(Optional) Add a “Get QuickTime” button for visitors who may need to download the QuickTime Player:

Make sure you adhere to Apple’s usage guidelines.

4.Save this Web page and, if need be, transfer it to your Web site. Your Web page and reference movie should reside in the same directory, otherwise you must adjust the reference to the reference movie.

You’re done. Open your Web page and try it out.

One More Hackers Attack on Facebook

•May 16, 2009 • Leave a Comment

On Thursday Facebook’s 200 million users had been launched an attack by Hackers, which successfully gathered passwords in the latest campaign to prey on members of the popular social networking site.

Facebook spokesman Barry Schnitt said on Thursday that the site was in the process of cleaning up damage from the attack.

He said that Facebook was blocking compromised accounts.

Schnitt declined to say how many accounts had been compromised.

The hackers got passwords through what is known as a phishing attack, breaking into accounts of some Facebook members, then sending e-mails to friends and urging them to click on links to fake websites.

Those sites were designed to look like the Facebook home page. The victims were directed to log back in to the site, but actually logged into the one controlled by the hackers, unwittingly giving away their passwords. The purpose of such attacks is generally identify theft and to spread spam.

The fake domains include www.151.im, www.121.im and www.123.im. Facebook has deleted all references to those domains.

Lawsuits Against Nvidia

•May 13, 2009 • Leave a Comment

The five Owners of Apple, Dell and Hewlett-Packard laptops including a Louisiana man who bought an Apple MacBook Pro a year ago, have made their lawsuits against Nvidia, filed an amended complaint last week in a San Francisco federal court, accusing Nvidia of violating consumer-protection laws, computerworld.com reports.

Nvidia admitted to the problem in July 2008, when it said some older chipsets that had shipped in “significant quantities” of notebooks were flawed. In a subsequent filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), the company argued that its chip suppliers, the laptop makers and even consumers were to blame.

Nvidia later told the SEC that it would take a $196 million charge to pay for replacing the graphics processors.

Apple, Dell and HP have all told users that some of their laptops contain faulty Nvidia chipsets. Apple, in fact, essentially said that Nvidia had misled it. “Nvidia assured Apple that Mac computers with these graphics processors were not affected,” Apple said in a support document posted last October. “However, after an Apple-led investigation, Apple has determined that some MacBook Pro computers … may be affected.”
